SANTIAGO.- On Tuesday, Subcontracted workers for Codelco resumed production activities at plants that had been affected by the strike, which had lasted for almost 3 weeks. A government proposal was accepted yesterday bringing an end to the strike, said the head of the workers.
On Monday, subcontracted workers put an end to the demonstration, which began on April 16th. Production at Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, took a hard hit after voting processes at the company’s five divisions.
Workers on strike at the Codelco Norte, Andina, Salvador and Ventanas divisions accepted a government proposal on Monday, while workers at the El Teniente unit decided to reject it, but accepted the majority decision.
The government proposal offered on Friday has put the ministers of Interior and Labor in charge of the agreement, which put an end to the strike, as well as the fulfillment of agreements reached last year, which called for subcontracted workers to be hired by the copper giant.
The proposal also offers a bonus of 500,000 CLP.
