Wake held for Gerado Rocha at monastery in San Jose de Maipo

The body was taken from the Legal Medical Service this morning to the entrance of the Carmelitas Descalzadas monastery, with police reinforcement present.

SANTIAGO.- A memorial wake is being held at the “Carmelitas Descalzadas del Amor Misericordioso y de la Virgen del Carmen” monastery for the late founder of the Universidad Santo Tomás, Gerardo Rocha, who passed away early yesterday morning at the Clinica Indisa following 74 days of agony.


Rocha had arrived at the medical center on February 22nd of this year suffering from burns on over 42% of his body from a fire at the home of former auctioneer Fernando Oliva in El Quisco.  Oliva was killed in the blaze.


The body of the deceased businessman was taken early this morning to the monastery located in the El Peumo area of San Jose del Maipo.


Later, Gerardo Rocha´s daughter, Karla Rocha Haardt, arrived requesting privacy for the difficult moment affecting her family.  After the request, the doors of the monastery were closed. 


Direct family members of the businessman have arrived, but have declined to speak about the topic.
