SANTIAGO.- The president of the Organization of American States, Jose Miguel Insulza, has shared ideas about factors of the government that need to be improved and has said that he would submit himself to the designation system established by the Concertación if he were a presidential candidate for the 2009 elections.

When asked whether he would participate in the primaries to determine the roster of presidential candidates for his party, the former minister of Interior told Channel 13 that he would submit himself to the system “used by the Concertación parties to settle their business”.

Insulza also maintained that it he was “honored” to have received support from the president of the Socialist Party (PS), who had indicated him as his preferred candidate.

Additionally, the OAS president ruled out the possibility of running against former President Ricardo Lagos, pointing out that there has never been a confrontation “not even among deputies, between a socialist and a PPD (Party for Democracy), much less between two socialists (…) I don’t know how something like that could be done”.
