SANTIAGO.- The head of Defense, José Goñi, who has been appointed to oversee emergency activities in Chaitén, stated today the police will be given all means necessary to obligate residents to leave the danger zone following the approval of a emergency protection measure presented at the Court of Appeals in Puerto Montt.

“The Court has already instructed police to locate these people and remove them from the danger zone.  The judges have given orders to use force if necessary”, the minister of Defense asserted during an interview with Radio ADN.

According to Goñi, the 130 people who have refused to evacuate and continue to remain in the area surrounding the volcano will be found by police and forced to leave their homes.

Goñi has a visit to Bariloche Argentina planned for this afternoon in order to meet with municipal authorities to thank them for their support and plan future reconstruction work for the Argentine side of the disaster.
