FUTALEUFÚ.- Some two thousand head of livestock still remain in the town of Futaleufú after bad weather conditions have made it too dangerous to transport them across the border into Argentina, where they would then be taken to Osorno.
The transportation had been coordinated for yesterday afternoon, but was cancelled due to heavy rains in the area, which prevented trucks carrying the livestock from leaving and prompted truck drivers to engage in horn-honking protests.
Livestock owners are concerned about what they consider to be a lack of support to transport the animals, as well as the urgent need to put them on the market.
The director of the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG), Francisco Bahamonde, has stated that there is support and that the delay is due to a situation that is out of their control.
Meanwhile, according to Radio Cooperativa, ash and mud continue to accumulate in the area, keeping access routes to Futaleufú slick and difficult to drive on.
