SANTIAGO.- Close to 400 high school students are currently holding a demonstration near the Fuente Alemana, next to Plaza Italia.

The students are protesting against the General Education Law proposal, which is being debated in Congress.

The demonstration, which was organized by the Confederation of Chilean Students (Confech), has so far only included students at the high school level.  Superior education students are expected to protest later on.

Meanwhile, in Talca one of the city’s main streets has been taken over by hundreds of high school students who are marching toward the town council displaying banners expressing their rejection of an educational system aimed at generating profits.

According to Radio Bio Bio, student demonstrations are expected to continue throughout the country today.
