LIMA.- The President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, and her Bolivian counterpart, Evo Morales, held a private meeting today at the Country Club Hotel located in the San Isidro district of Lima.  Both leaders are currently in Lima to participate in the Fifth Latin America-European Union Summit (EU/LAC).

The informal meeting between Bachelet and Morales was aimed at evaluating the progress of a current bilateral agreement on three issues, including Bolivia’s lawsuit seeking an outlet to the sea.

The Heads of State last met together in December of 2007, in La Paz, to launch the construction of the Inter-Ocean Road Corridor along with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in hopes of increasing economic growth for the nations.

Bolivia and Chile have not had diplomatic relations at the emissary level since 1978, when negotiations failed to resolve a territorial conflict between the two countries.
