Girardi asks government not to intervene in party struggle for town councilor candidate rosters

The PPD senator asserted that the meeting with ex President Lagos did not change the agreement reached with radicals and criticized, "there are some people who feel like they own the Concertación".

SANTIAGO.- PPD Senator Guido Girardi has called upon the government “not to get involved in matters that do not concern them” after the current administration took a strong stance on unity among government parties, which are currently up in arms with each other after the PPD and PRSD notified the rest of the Concertación of their decision to create a separate roster of town councilors to compete in the municipal elections.

“We have the same, or even a more, unified spirit than they do”, stated Girardi.

The senator also indicated that the PPD board meeting with former President Ricardo Lagos served as an opportunity for members to express their point of view on the proposal and that it did not change the party’s stance on the matter, which (according to him) will not affect the agreement made with the PRSD.

While referring to the argument that this could imply a one-way road to separation of the government parties, the senator denied the allegation and indicated that his proposal allows for an increase in the number of candidates, as well as incorporation of new people, which in turn allows them to “renovate the human element of the Concertación”.
