SANTIAGO.- After the Simce 2007 test revealed a drop in the quality of Education, the minister of Education, Mónica Jiménez, has assured that from now on, resources will be distributed according to the test results. The minister also stressed the important role that teachers play in educating students.
With regards to the academic system, which is a fundamental element determined by the Ministry of Education, Jiménez highlighted teacher development as a way to improve student learning. “It is not enough to have a good curriculum and good textbooks; teachers must be made responsible for the results of their students”.
While referring to the new General Education Law being processed in Congress, the minister maintained, “it will help us because, private academic sponsors for example, will be subjected to more demanding requisites. The resources issued by the Ministry of Education will not be swiped away for private business or municipal use. The new law is more closely linked to education than the previous law, LOCE”.
