LOS ANDES.- The Transit Department of the Ministry of Public Works has announced that the Cristo Redentor mountain pass currently remains closed to all types of vehicles as a result of the heavy snowfall currently being registered in the area, which has caused ice to accumulate on the roadway.

Weather conditions will dictate when the international pass can be reopened.

Travelers are reminded that that the pass is currently operating on a reduced, winter schedule with Customs serving the public only between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM and closing the pass to all transit at night.

Chilean and Argentine Transportation Departments are working together to address any emergencies along the route.

The National Emergency Office has indicated that snow continues to fall and that the area will remain on yellow alert until weather conditions stabilize.
