SANTIAGO.- The Socialist Party deputy Carlos Montes has criticized the General Education Law (LGE) project, saying it “has important deficiencies”. The project is currently being processed in the Senate after it was proposed by the current government administration and agreed upon by various political sectors.
“The project as it is now has important deficiencies because it does not provide a vision for public education or specify the role of the State in public education (…) This is a fundamental part of a General Education Law”, Montes told Televisión Nacional.
The deputy maintained that the proposal “does not require private owners to provide detailed and complete accounting records, but is rather a sum of money they receive from the State and those who receive the money are not required to declare surpluses”.
Additionally, according to Montes, “the project makes (a mistake) for example, in article 10 concerning internal school regulations, it regulates student conscience and has other errors, for example the pre-school situation is not addressed well”.
