SANTIAGO.- While supporting the harsh criticism expressed by former President Ricardo Lagos concerning the election pact made by the PPD and PRSD, the Minister of Interior, Edmundo Pérez Yoma, also deemed doubts raised by his own party members about the leadership of President Michelle Bachelet “absolutely”  unjustified.

The Minister of the Interior stated that following the party’s decision, electoral considerations can be made, but they “cannot override political considerations, and the government administration, especially President Bachelet, is determined to see the parties of the Concertación reach a political agreement to clearly settle the issue that has arisen”.

Pérez Yoma also spoke out against statements made by members of his own political party, the Christian Democracy, stating, “the criticism of the President’s leadership is, in my opinion, totally and absolutely unjustified”.

The state secretary pointed out that the President has asked Concertación party leaders to reach an agreement in order to maintain the unity of the organization, asserting, “they are the ones who need to resolve these issues”.
