SANTIAGO.- President Michelle Bachelet called the group of police officers in charge of her personal safety to a private meeting at the La Moneda presidential palace this morning.

Just before 9:00 AM, each of the officers passed through the Las Camelias Patio of the palace wearing a black suit as a symbol of the organization’s state of mourning after the tragic death of National Police Chief José Alejandro Bernales and three other officers.

Minister Francisco Vidal also participated in the ceremony and reported that the President had taken it upon herself to express, on the part of her administration, their”deepest condolences” and maintained that “the greatest homage to General Bernales is to work harder on the initiatives that the he and the government had proposed together”.

At the end of the gathering, which lasted for close to an hour, the presidential guards filed out in an orderly line towards the Los Cañones Patio and then made their way to the Los Naranjos Patio.
