Pears, zucchini and avocados show greatest price increases in produce

The Ministry of Agriculture Poll also indicated that lettuce, cauliflower, carrots and onions registered the most significant drops.

SANTIAGO.- The weekly fruit and vegetable produce poll performed by the Office of Agricultural Research and Policies (ODEPA) of the Ministry of Agriculture has revealed increases in the prices of pears, zucchini, avocados, lemons and apples.


At supermarkets, the products with the most significant price increases were pears (25%), zucchini (23%) and avocadoes (17%), while the greatest price jumps at open markets were associated with zucchini (23%), lemons (14%) and apples (10%).


The study, which was done on the 29th of May, indicates that the biggest price drops in supermarkets were among lettuce (17%), squash (11%) and cauliflower (8%).  Meanwhile, at open markets carrots (30%), onions (23%) and lettuce (16%) prices fell most.


Garlic once again showed significant price differences depending on the type of establishment, with a 423% range of variation – reporting the highest price within supermarkets in the southern part of the city ($266 per unit) and the lowest price at open-air markets ($50).
