Minister Juan Eduardo Fuentes presided over a large portion of the proceedings petitioned by the attorney for the family of the singer-songwriter, Nelson Caucoto.

SANTIAGO. -  Accepting a large portion of the proceedings petitioned by Attorney Nelson Caucoto, Minister Juan Eduardo Fuentes decided to reopen the investigation into the death of folksinger Víctor Jara, which had previously been closed on May 15th of this year.

The decision to close the case brought criticism from both human rights organizations and political groups, which resented the fact that the case ended in only one person, Army Colonel Mario Manríquez, being charged.

Among the proceedings petitioned by Attorney Caucoto was a request to summon military conscripts and former Chile Stadium prisoners who were held captive with Jara, to the stand to testify, arguing that they will be able to contribute additional details to the case.

Caucoto has also requested an investigation into testimony given by Marines and Military Court officials who may have interrogated prisoners at the stadium.
