Robbery at the home of Ministry of Foreign Affairs official

The suspects made off with more than three million pesos in jewelry, other artifacts and cash between 7:40 PM and 8:05 PM yesterday evening.

SANTIAGO.- The East Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Metropolitan Robbery Investigation Department are currently investigating the theft of more than three million pesos in jewelry, other artifacts and cash from the home of the Director of Administration for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Claudio Henríquez, located on Tomás Guevara street, in the municipality of Providencia.


According to his wife, Lilian Vial, the incident occurred between 7:40 PM and 8:05 PM yesterday while the home was left unattended. Her husband had gone to drop one of her children off at the Parque Arauco Mall.


The thieves jumped the gate to the residence, which is protected by a 1.5-meter fence, and then forced open a front window to gain entrance to the home.  The suspects then proceeded to the master bedroom, where they took and made off with jewelry and1,500 euros.


The homeowners became aware of the robbery after returning home. Authorities have yet to arrest any suspects in connection with the incident.
