SANTIAGO.- Despite the fact that the PPD had manifested its intention to declare its own candidate for Santiago at the municipal elections scheduled for October of this year, party leaders decided this morning to offer their complete support to the DC candidate, Jaime Ravinet.

The president of the PPD, Pepe Auth, announced that early this morning he revealed the decision to Ravinet himself, who is currently in France.

Auth said that the party would offer its “utmost support” to Ravinet during his campaign, which he considers to be a gesture towards the Christian Democracy amid the complex municipal negotiations.

Like the PPD, the Socialist Party (PS) also expressed its public support for Ravinet yesterday, after the group’s secretary general stated that the former mayor is “the best candidate the Concertación can have to go up against the right”.
