SANTIAGO.- A recent study performed by Adimark has revealed that 55.7% of the population supports construction of hydroelectric plants in the Region of Aisén, indicating that only 25.5% is opposed to the initiative.
The survey, performed in May under the observation of the company HidroAysén, reports that 65.9% of those interviewed said they agreed with the statement that if this company built five plants, it would help solve electric energy shortage problems in the country.
On the other hand, 26.4% of those interviewed said they did not agree with the statement.
The majority of those who support the project belong to socioeconomic group D (61%), followed by C3 (53%) and C2 (49%). The group ABC1 came in last with only a 42% approval rate.
With regards to the ages of those who said they were in favor of the initiative, the largest approval rate was among 18 to 24 year-olds (64%) and people over 56 (63%).
