SANTIAGO.- In the Seventh Region town of Longaví, Police Sargent Misael Silva Salazar came to the rescue of a six year old girl who had been kidnapped from the patio of her home just minutes before.
As he approached the corner of streets Uno Poniente and Cinco Norte, Officer Salazar noticed a man forcefully dragging a girl off, hurting her and causing her to cry.
The sergeant ran towards the child, which caused the suspect to let go of the girl and flee. After seeing that the little girl was not injured, Salazar asked a neighbor to look after her.
Quickly, the officer began to chase the suspect on foot and, despite his 59 years, the retired policeman managed to track down and detain the man after running some 70 meters.
Salazar then contacted Longaví law enforcement to turn the man in to his former police comrades.
