SANTIAGO.- Following the rainfall that affected the Metropolitan Region over the last couple days, frigid temperatures are expected to be felt in the area, with lows falling to below zero degrees Celsius this weekend in the central part of the country.

Meteorologist Julio Saravia explained, “temperatures over the weekend are expected to drop to between -2 and 0ºC from the Fifth to the Sixth Region”.

Meanwhile, the expert stated, “a very cold weekend has been forecasted for the Seventh Region, where thermometers will be reading between -3 and -1ºC”.

A mass of cold air over the central part of the country is to blame for the cold temperatures.  A low of 3.9ºC was already reported from the Quinta Normal weather station in Santiago today.

Nevertheless, the lowest temperature in the capital so far this month was reported on June 15th, when the thermometer dropped to 0.2ºC.
