SANTIAGO.- In anticipation of the difficult process ahead for the General Education Law as it makes its way to the Senate, the president of the Education Commission of the Upper House, Alejandro Navarro, has said that the commission is “not willing to cut discussion on the bill short” and therefore, all necessary corrections will be made.

Navarro stated, “the separation and balance between powers is a basic principle within republic and democratic governments.  On the contrary, what we are seeing here is an attempt to bulldoze right over Parliament”.

The senator also maintained, “this law will be debated at the Senate”, because “it is the most important law of the 21st century” and “we will faithfully exercise our authority over the Education Commission without accepting a possible annulment of parliamentary activity”.

“If someone is expecting us to buckle under the direct and indirect pressure that will we surely face, they are wrong (...) we will not accept repression or express votes”, he warned.
