SANTIAGO.- While pointing out the approval of “very important projects for the people” this week such as the minimum salary and the increase in resources for the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund, President Michelle Bachelet spoke out against criticism from her own administration concerning the approval of the General Education Law.

In response to statements made by Concertación members of Parliament, who have said that the LGE encourages profit-making on education, President Bachelet stated during an interview with Radio Cooperativa, “sometimes people argue about things without being familiar with them.  I heard some people say that the last straw was that the General Education Law proposes the existence of profits, yet the word profit does not exist in the law”.

The President said that doubts raised by members of Parliament concerning the matter “will be confronted by the law as it addresses how to guarantee and improve the regulation of adequate funds for public education”.
