SANTIAGO.- After a group of 10 teens hospitalized at a National Children’s Service (Sename) center in Graneros overdosed on pharmaceutical drugs, the organization’s national director, Eugenio San Martín, stated that an investigation has already begun in order to determine the circumstances that lead to the incident.

During the episode, 20 teenagers medicated themselves with antidepressants and tranquilizers, causing them to become “seriously intoxicated”, although San Martín stressed that the prescription drugs were kept out of reach of the minors.

According to Radio Cooperativa, San Martin stated, “there are drugs that are administered at the centers, by professionals from the National Council for the Control of Narcotics (Conace)”, adding that “the instructions given at that particular center were that these drugs be kept outside of the center at the administrative offices”.

This order served as the precise cornerstone for the decision to perform an investigation to establish how the children were able to obtain the drugs.
