SANTIAGO.- The sub secretary of the Interior, Felipe Harboe, has assured that “for now” there is no concrete evidence linking any member of the National Police Force to the band of drug-traffickers known as the “Car´e Jarro”.
Nevertheless, during the arraignment hearing held yesterday a tape recording was played on which an alleged member of the police force could be heard asking Ivan Cavieres, the ring leader of the gang, to contribute financial aid for the “institution’s anniversary party”.
While stating that participation can be neither ruled out nor confirmed at this point, the sub secretary stressed that “for now, the investigation being carried out by the Public Ministry and the Police Investigative Unit has yielded no evidence allowing us to clearly and certainly identify any police officer”.
During an interview with Radio Cooperativa, Harboe added that the police have still not opened an official interrogation into the matter, since the charges are currently only based on third party references and there is still no name. Nevertheless, Harboe also indicated that, in light of this, a period of six months has been ordered for the investigation.
