SANTIAGO.- Following commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Salvador Allende with activities being held in numerous countries, Deputy Isabel Allende has expressed that it is “moving” to see that her father is considered “a universal icon”.
“It is an acknowledgement of the unswerving loyalty, resolve, dedication and solidarity with which he served his beloved people”, she maintained.
According to the socialist deputy, “it is almost surreal to see how the one hundredth anniversary of his birth is being commemorated in practically all parts of the world. It is moving and, at the same time, this just and well-deserved recognition offers a sense of pride for resolve and loyalty to principles and to someone who gave up his life for his dreams and what he believed in”.
Allende also said that she had attended ceremonies held in China and Vietnam, and that she had received a call from Sydney, Australia yesterday and indicated that activities are being held in practically all of Europe as well as several Latin American countries.
According to Isabel Allende, her father “today, would have continued believing in what he always had, which was to make Chile a more grand and just country for its people”.
