SANTIAGO.- Due to a lack of precipitation forecasted for the coming days, air quality in the capital city is not expected to improve until Thursday of this week.

This was the indication given by the director on- duty at the Department of Meteorology, Victoria Riquelme, who stated, “we are not expecting precipitation in the Metropolitan Region over the next five days”.

“We are going to have quite unfavorable conditions for air pollution until about Wednesday”, Riquelme told Radio Cooperativa.

Nevertheless, the meteorological expert maintained that “by Thursday afternoon, we are expecting a mass of air to move in from the coast, which could clean out the valley of Santiago a bit”.

For today, an environmental alert has been declared for the Metropolitan Region, prohibiting the circulation of non-catalytic vehicles with license plates ending in 1, 2, 3 and 4.
