Cornejo acknowledges both "minor and severe" irregularities in Comptroller’s report

The mayor clarified that the objections he presented to the entity were related to payments that had been made ahead of time or without proof that the service had actually been performed.

SANTIAGO.- The mayor of Recoleta, Gonzalo Cornejo, acknowledged this morning on Radio Cooperativa that the Comptroller’s report indicates administrative financial irregularities.  “There are some that are minor, some very minor and others that are more serious, but not one peso belonging to the municipality has been allocated for unapproved ends”, said Cornejo.

The mayor explained that the Comptroller’s objection concerns the contracts belonging to the Advanced Municipal Management company (known as the GMA), which is being legally represented by Jenny Acevedo, who previously worked as an official in the mayor’s municipality.  Cornejo clarified that “two months after forming the company, she sold, relinquished and transferred all of her shares, and was therefore no longer a partner”.

The problem stems from the fact that the mayor assures having been a witness to the transfer; however the Comptroller’s Office says that the mayor was in Spain on the date the transaction was completed.

According to Cornejo, signing as a witness after the fact and not being part of the contract does not discredit the fact that she ceased to be a partner of the company.
