SANTIAGO.- Just hours before the beginning of the National Christian Democracy (DC) Meeting, which he will not be able to attend due to a quite serious cold, former President Patricio Aylwin has issued a call for his fellow party members to act “sensibly” so that the party meeting is not tainted with pressure from the presidential race.

“I am confident that my comrades will act sensibly and that the agreements reached will be positive.  I believe that what Soledad (Alvear) has said today is reasonable, that the candidate proclamation should not be performed early and that it should be done after the municipal elections”, the former President stated during a conversation with Emol.

His stance also coincides with that expressed by Senator Eduardo Frei, who has proposed that the candidate should be elected after October, but rejects the opinion held by some members close to Alvear and the 120 DC delegates that have agreed to define the candidate this weekend”.

With regards to the system for determining the presidential candidate, the former national leader stated that he is in favor of the idea suggested by Alvear, calling for “one member, one vote” and not the open-primaries formula being promoted by Frei supporters.
