SANTIAGO.- Amid questions raised by some members of parliament concerning her performance at the Ministry of Environment, the head of the federal department, Ana Lya Uriarte, assured that the government is working to create quick solutions for the pollution problem in Santiago.
Uriarte explained that this will begin with “efforts to restructure the prevention and decontamination plan”, and that to do this, citizens will be able to express their own comments and ideas so that authorities are up to date on what it is that residents are demanding with regards to the environment.
According to the minister, “today, it is necessary to take on a second phase in the fight against pollution, one that incorporates elements of higher sophistication”.
Uriarte added that the Ministry of Environment is working together with other ministries to receive proposals that, in the long run, will help to distance areas of dense population from centers of contamination.
