SANTIAGO.- A march organized for today by the Teachers´ Association (Colegio de Profesores), which had not authorized by the Metropolitan City Government, began with several instances of confrontations this morning at the Plaza Italia.
The problems began at approximately 10:40 AM, when close to 600 people, mostly high school students, as well as teachers and university students started marching towards the downtown area of the capital.
After arriving at the intersection of Alameda and René Morales, police attempted to stop the protesters from continuing with water cannons and tear gas, causing demonstrators to disperse.
As a result of the measures taken by police, traffic was halted for close to five minutes and entrance points to the Baquedano subway station were closed for a brief period of time.
