MONTEVIDEO.- The President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, met today with a group of Chilean nationals in Montevideo who, she said, continue to reinforce a common Latin American heritage by residing in the “sister” nation.
From the downtown hotel where she is staying, Bachelet, who will end her official two-day visit today, engaged in relaxed conversation with members from the community of Chileans that have been residing in the country for years and congratulated them on continuing their lives in Uruguay and “making this your homeland of choice just as Chile is your homeland of origin ”.
The agenda for President Bachelet´s last day in Uruguay includes a meeting with the head of the Supreme Court, a visit to the Latin American Integration Association (LAIA), as well as a conference with Uruguayan business leaders.
During her final official activity before returning to Santiago later today, the President plans to inaugurate the “Salvador Allende” civic center along with her Uruguayan counterpart, Tabaré Vázquez. The center is being opened in a town just outside of Montevideo in commemoration of the 100-year anniversary of the former President’s birth.
