SANTIAGO.- The Minister of Education, Mónica Jiménez, expressed regret today for the lack of willingness to converse on the part of the Teachers´ Association (Colegio de Profesores) and stated that the government would not be pressured by demonstrations such as the one planned today by educators, students and members of various organizations in protest of the General Education Law (LGE).
Minister Jiménez asserted that “the Ministry has always kept its doors open to conversation, and unfortunately the teachers have not taken advantage of this because they have such a strict stance on wanting to get the LGE out of Parliament, and that makes me think they want the LOCE (Constitutional Organic Education Law)”.
“It is very hard for me to understand them, because the LGE is clearly much better than the LOCE, there is just no comparison”, she stressed during an interview with Radio ADN.
Jiménez reiterated that the demonstrations planned for today would not place pressure on the Executive Branch, because the LGE is at Congress and that is where it will be decided whether to approve the law project or not.
