SANTIAGO.-  Residents of Chaitén reacted with resignation to a failed operation to enter the town yesterday.  Strong winds kept the evacuees from debarking the three boats that had transported them from Puerto Montt and Castro, forcing them to return after seven hours of waiting.

During an interview with Radio ADN, one of the evacuees onboard the “Chacabuco” vessel stated, “there is no one to blame except the weather and we can’t complain nor blame anyone, or be complaining about anyone”.

Another one of the evacuees said, “what can you do, bad weather, we couldn’t get out to see the area and we have to wait until Saturday like the captain here said”.

Meanwhile, a third resident agreed saying, “first and foremost we wanted to see how the house was and salvage a few things if possible, but we weren’t able to and we’ll just have to wait until the next time.  We have accepted that, there is no one to blame”.
