SANTIAGO.-  Approximately five thousand people will be affected by the workers´ strike at Chilean State Railways (EFE) that began early this morning, prompting frustration and anxiety for many passengers.

“They should have announced it.  Now they tell us that it (the station) was taken over last night.  I mean, what about us? It is just a lack of respect.  I am going to Nos and the only option was the Metrotrén, there are no other alternatives.  Well, its just all for the birds”, said one of the users.

According to Marcos Muñoz, the president of the Chilean Machine Operators´ Union, some five thousand people could be affected along the Alameda-Rancagua route alone by the EFE Union Nº6 strike.

The cancellations have affected the services of TerraSur, Metrotrén and Biotrén along the Victoria-Temuco and Cortelaja routes, where the 288 striking workers from Santiago, Talcahuano and Concepción work.
