SANTIAGO.-  The Minister of Agriculture, Marigen Hornkohl, has declared an agricultural emergency in the municipality of Vilcún, stemming from the eruption of the Llaima volcano, which has forced the towns located closest to the mountain to remain on red alert amidst danger posed to livestock and crops.

“Forage crops have been delivered, food has been delivered, this must continue to be done as long as the red zone allows”, Hornkohl stated after visiting the “Región de la Araucanía”.

“I arrived here with the signed decree to declare an agricultural emergency for the entire municipality of Vilcún, that means that plans to aid farmers will be able to move ahead faster”, she added.

Hornkohl explained that the decree allows “adequate measures to be taken because not only do things have to be done quickly, they also have to be done well”.
