SANTIAGO.- This Friday, machine operators at the Chilean State Railways Company (EFE) began their second day of strike, leaving passengers without service on Metrotrén, Biotrén and Terrasur.
Although the amount of people to arrive at Estación Central was less than on Thursday of this week, those who did show up were once again forced to make their way to the San Borja and Alameda bus stations in search of transportation.
The company now says close to 25 thousand users are being affected daily by the strike.
According to Radio Cooperativa, the machine operators´ union, which is made up of 255 workers, began its strike on Wednesday night, accusing the company of a 40% cut in their salaries.
EFE has said that budget limitations are preventing them from meeting the union’s salary demands, which is one of the ten points for which an agreement could not be reached during the collective negotiation process.
