SANTIAGO.-  “This has discredited their movement.  They have shown that they are not capable of talking.  I would like to speak (to them) one on one because they get all worked up as a group”, stated Minister Jiménez.

This was the calm reaction displayed by the Minister of Education, Mónica Jiménez, this morning after she was literally soaked with cold water by a student, who was protesting arrests made during recent demonstrations held against the General Education Law (LGE).

This morning, Jiménez participated in the Closing Day of the Public Education Involvement Discussions, which calls on high school students, university students and teachers to gather and address topics such as the LGE.

As Jiménez was getting ready to give her speech, she received a harsh display of discontent from a Liceo Darías Salas student, who shocked audience members as she threw a glass of water on the minister.

Minister Jiménez left immediately and spoke to the press an hour later about the incident, but this time from a safer area where students were not allowed access.
