SANTIAGO.- The government has expressed its “most emphatic disapproval” of the attack suffered by the Minister of Education, Mónica Jiménez, this morning as she was participating in a discussion with students and teachers from the Metropolitan Region.
“This is not helping to improve education at all in Chile, and from the government’s point of view (we express) utmost repulsion towards this kind of attitude and, obviously, we offer all due respect to the Minister of Education”, stated the spokesperson for La Moneda, Francisco Vidal.
Minister Jiménez was attacked by a 14 year-old female student from the Liceo Darío Salas this morning, during the Closing Day of the Public Education Involvement Discussions, which calls on high school students, university students and teachers to address issues such as the General Education Law (LGE).
Just as the head of Education had been getting ready to begin her speech, the student threw a glass of water in her face while the minister was standing at the front of the crowd along with other authorities.
