Storm leaves 1,200 without homes and 1,400 stranded in the south

The Los Lagos Region has been the area most affected by the bad weather. An overflow at the junction of the Rahue and Bueno Rivers has caused homes to be flooded, prompting shelters to be opened.

SANTIAGO.-  Blocked roads, river breaches and landslides have been the main problems caused by the storm front in the southern part of the country, where 1,200 people are currently without homes and 1,400 people have been stranded.


The Los Lagos Region has been the most affected area.  An overflow at the junction of the Rahue and Bueno rivers has caused homes to be flooded, prompting makeshift shelters to be opened.


“The Los Lagos Region is receiving the brunt of the problems, with 1,023 people currently without homes, 821 of which are from Purranque (only 21 are being housed in shelters); 32 are from Osorno, and 170 are from Fresia.  Of the 1,400 people stranded, 700 are from Fresia and 700 are from San Pablo”, stated the director of ONEMI, Carmen Fernández.


The Araucanía Region has reported 500 people stranded due to blocked roads, while 120 people without homes in Toltén after 30 houses were flooded.
