IQUIQUE-  While giving a series of announcements to encourage tourism on a national level and cement it as a key factor in the country’s development strategy, President Michelle Bachelet led the ceremony to launch the Special Interest Tourism Cluster at the former Humberstone saltpeter office in the Region of Tarapacá.

The President toured the former saltpeter office and personally became familiar with one of the goals of the cluster—to create a distinct, high-quality, sustainable tourist experience that will attract visitors by way of promoting the natural and cultural attractions of the country which, in the case of Tarapacá, will focus mainly on the desert, the saltpeter plant and the Chilean Altiplano.

The Special Interest Tourism Cluster considers which destinations to focus efforts on, such as Arica and Parinacota, the Atacama Desert and the Tarapacá Altiplano, Easter Island, the Central Valleys, the Araucanía Andina Region, Patagonia, the Scenic Austral Highway of Pâtagonia, the Torres del Paine and Bernardo O´Higgins and the Antarctic Patagonia.
