Court arraigns woman accused of beating her daughter to death

The woman brutally beat the child because she had refused to read a book to prepare for a test at school.

SANTIAGO.-  The North Central Public Prosecutor's Office arraigned 26 year-old Erna Rivera Care this morning on charges of fatally beating her 9 year-old daughter, identified as having the initials P.A.A.R. 


The brutal attack occurred just after 4:00 PM on Monday in the neighborhood of Los Robles de Colina where, according to police, the woman kicked and punched her daughter because she had refused to read a book to prepare for a test at school.


During the beating, the woman threw the girl against a couch, causing her to suffer a serious injury to her abdomen.


The beating left the girl with at least 30 bruises on different parts of her body, along with arm fractures and the abdominal injury.


The child was later taken by her mother to the Emergency First Aid Service (SAPU) in Colina, where she died of cardio-respiratory arrest.
