SANTIAGO.-  Following continuous requests made to the city government of Aisén, as well as the reestablishment of the maritime trade route from the province of Palena
–connecting Puerto Montt and Aisén- dozens of evacuees from the area will be allowed more frequent access to the eruption zone.

In fact, Radio Cooperative announced that more and more residents of Chaitén have travelled to the area onboard the “Pincova” vessel over the last few days thanks to government subsidies.  Other ships have made the same trip, creating ongoing transportation to and from Chaitén.

Government subsidies that have helped to lower the cost of the boat fares by 40% are to thank for the increased number of people that have been able to travel to the area.

The majority of the evacuees are trying to reach their homes so that they can salvage some of their possessions, although there is also a small group that plans to re-inhabit the city, despite the fact that the zone still represents a possible risk to humans.
