Piñera: “Within the RN we are confident that Sabat is an innocent man”

SANTIAGO.-  Amid the busy scenario currently surrounding the Alianza in order to  get the parties to define their candidates for the upcoming municipal elections, RN leader Sebastián Piñera has justified the vow of support his party expressed yesterday for the Mayor of Nuñoa.

“The National Renovation’s support for Pedro Sabat stems from the fact that, within the National Renovation, we know Pedro Sabat and we are confident that he is an innocent man”, declared the business tycoon.  According to Radio Bio Bio however, Piñera also assured that “this definitely does not allow us to simply disregard or forget about a report issued by the Comptroller’s Office”. 

“The Comptroller´s report has to continue its process and I insist that there is only one logical process for it to follow:  Mayor Sabat must correct the errors, if there have been financial irregularities, then the corresponding statutes and sanctions must be applied, and if someone thinks a crime has been committed, which has so far not been mentioned by anyone, then the case will need to go to court”.
