SANTIAGO.- In relation to the accusations that have been made against the Mayor of Nuñoa, Pedro Sabat, the PPD city councilor for the municipality, Pablo Vergara, declared “we cannot be linked to money laundering or drug trafficking”, directly alluding to an alleged relationship between Sabat and Jaime Camhi Ramírez, who has been charged in connection with such crimes.
During an interview with TVN, Vergara added that “the Public Ministry has had a case against them for fraud against the Treasury, forgery of a public deed, perjury and illicit money-making”.
“A person that earns 1 million and 300 thousand pesos per month and who, according to him, works 14 hours a day, has figured out how to get rich while he sleeps. When he took his position as mayor, he (Sabat) had a house with 100 square meters of living space and 300 square meters of land; now he owns a home with 600 square meters of land and 350 square meters of living space”, claimed Vergara.
Finally, Pablo Vergara indicated that he has presented more than 70 suits for the Comptroller’s Office, with memorable results for Mayor Pedro Sabat, "but since I only have the support of one city councilor for charges to be brought before the Electoral Tribunal, we haven’t been able to have him dismissed".
