SANTIAGO.-  The Military Public Prosecutor’s Office of Valparaíso has switched the investigation into a law enforcement officer’s attack on a photographer belonging the Spanish agency EFE from the jurisdiction of the National Police Force to the Civil Police Force.  The photographer reportedly may lose sight in one of his eyes as a result of the assault.

Photographers and reporters from other mediums of communications were able to capture images of the aggressor and public outcry from the Association of Foreign Correspondents has been prompted by the fact that the investigation ordered by the Chief of Police has yielded no results.

Alfredo Morgado, the attorney representing the photographer, spoke out against “the lack of objectivity and transparency with regards to the investigation” within the National Police Force.

According to Morgado, “what is questionable is the fact that, despite the photographs (which were not only taken by Victor Salas himself before and after the attack, but were also captured by other reporters)”, police still have not identified the aggressor.
