VIÑA DEL MAR.- Three Viña del Mar city councilors were subjected to a very hostile environment on their way to present a charge of notable abandonment of obligation against Mayor Virgina Reginato.
As the councilors approached the Electoral Tribunal to officially present the charge, they were attacked by a mob of some one-hundred supporters of the mayor, who threw eggs, water, coins and even punches at the officials.
Police intervened in the situation, rescuing the councilors and hustling them to safety at a café adjacent to the Electoral Tribunal of the Fifth Region.
According to Radio Bío Bío, the incident delayed the presentation of the charge against Reginato.
