SANTIAGO.- During his visit to Australia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alejandro Foxely, highlighted the fact that Chile is broadening its ties to the nation through various concrete initiatives, including the signing of several agreements aimed at creating opportunities for both countries.

The minister indicated that relations between the two nations are becoming closer and closer, providing strategic overtones for the agreements that are being adopted. The initiatives include a Free Trade Agreement, which will be signed on Wednesday of this week in Canberra, as well as educational alliances that will be signed today in Sydney to increase the number of graduate and specialized students abroad.

An arrangement has also been made to allow for a considerable increase in the number of people permitted to participate in the “Work and Holiday” program, which is geared towards stimulating tourism as well as promoting exchange and mutual understanding between young Chileans and Australians through authorized holiday/work experiences in the other country.
