SANTIAGO.- The head of the Instituto Nacional, Omar Letelier, declared this morning that the country is under a Rule of Law and therefore, a person cannot be asked to resign “just because”.

“We are under a Rule of Law, we can’t just suddenly do that (force someone to resign) to people without an investigation.  There has to be an investigation first (…) I have to face an indictment, we’ll see what happens there first”, Letelier told Radio Cooperativa.

The statement stems from the current crisis at the school involving administration and representation –both are currently under investigation- which has not only prompted recent strikes, but has also lead to requests for the resignation of the rector of the educational institution.

Letelier acknowledged that the project to municipalize the school has not yielded results and that there is in fact a problem with the infrastructure, but claimed that this is due to the fact that the school has not received enough resources to sustain a initiative of such a magnitude.  “No in-depth repairs have been made for 20, 30 years”, stated the rector.
