Bachelet calls cabinet council meeting to address regulations to combat voting intervention

The Minister of Interior, Edmundo Pérez Yoma, has assured that "no type of electoral internvention" will be allowed.

SANTIAGO.- The Minister of Interior, Edmundo Pérez Yoma, announced today that President Michelle Bachelet has called a cabinet council meeting for tomorrow at 8:15 AM, where she will educate all of the ministers about the regulations in place to prevent electoral intervention in the upcoming municipal elections.


“This is going to be one of the issues that will be addressed.  We will talk about the line of conduct that should be followed concerning the matter, and I want to be clear and emphatic, we will not allow any type of electoral intervention”, stated Pérez Yoma.


On Monday of this week, following accusations of intervention made by the Alianza and amid the proposal of RN leader Sebastián Piñera to call on a “network of free elections”, the President assured that transparency will be of great concern during at the upcoming election.


During the launch of the website www.tueliges.cl, the President –without naming Piñera- maintained that “in Chile, national institutions guarantee that popular will may be expressed freely”.


“I think that the Piñera and Espinoz should take another look at the dazzling impression they received during their experience in Colombia”, she said.
