SANTIAGO.- Due to the heavy rainfall that will affect the central and southern zones of the country this Friday and Saturday, the National Emergency Office (Onemi) has declared an early Preventive Alert in the regions of Valparaiso and Los Lagos

The phenomenon is expected to cover a wide expanse of terrain with a heavy concentration of rain in a matter of hours.

The organization has projected that in the southern regions, where recent recurrent precipitation has kept the soil and terrain perpetually wet, continued rainfall could generate flooding and unwanted water accumulation in lower areas.

For this reason, the Regional Offices of the Onemi will be evaluating the conditions of vulnerability and monitoring the flow of the rivers and the state of roads.

Precipitation of between 5 and 10 millimeters has been forecasted for today by the Meteorological Department of Chile.
